Our goal in packaging is to provide our customers with product well protected and in a form that is easy to handle. Glass/mirror is both bulky and fragile. That creates numerous challenges that require a balance between protection and ease of handling. Through years of experience, we have identified a number of packaging configurations.
Skid Pack - The most common form of packaging used at Lenoir Mirror is the wooden skid or buck. The skid is an L-shaped structure with the vertical side set at a slight tilt. The glass/mirror is packed against the vertical side. When the skid is full, the material is secured with banding and/or stretch wrap. This is an effective package for customers who purchase larger quantities of cut size product. The skids are handled most effectively with a fork lift or jack. When empty, the skids can be accumulated and returned for reuse.
Wooden Case - Lenoir Mirror packs large stock sheets of mirror in the original wooden case sent to us by the primary glass manufacturer. These cases weigh 3 to 4000 pounds and should only be handled with proper overhead equipment. Once repackaged, the cases are banded for additional structural security.
Sling Pack - Large stock sheet mirrors can also be shipped in sling or stoce pack. This form of packaging is based upon the weight of the product secured around an A frame. The customer must have effective overhead handling equipment and storage facilities to handle this type of package. This type of package can only be shipped in increments of 4 to 6 cases and preferably solid truckloads.
End Caps - End Caps provide a couple of appealing features. First they provide more stability during transportation and offloading than sling packs. Secondly, there is only a fraction of the wood to be disposed of as compared to wooden cases. End Caps can also be returned to Lenoir Mirror for future use.
Wooden Box - Depending upon customer needs, Lenoir Mirror will construct custom wooden boxes in which to package glass/mirrors. These type boxes are usually needed for re-distribution purposes.
Individual Carton - Certain items that are shipped to the customer an then re-distributed can be packed in individual corrugated cartons. These items can also be utilized for multiple packs. The packs themselves can be handled separately or packaged in a master carton with other products.
Individual Cardboard Wrap - This form of packaging is used primarily for glass shelves but can also be used for mirrors that are being packed in a master carton. The pack consists of a sleeve of cardboard that is wrapped and taped around the glass/mirror.
